Cooking Healthy Meals for my Dog With Cancer

I have lots of videos about making your own dog feed in this post, but this page is specifically for making food for my dog Kali, who has a tumor.

This recipe was given by a guy who said he got it from The Farmer's Dog. They actually sent him the recipe when they made a mistake with his order. It was so great to be able to find this video. I do believe the Farmer's Dog makes great food, but I just cant afford to have it delivered it at this time (but if I could, I would order from them!)

The recipe is just below the video (from the the comment's section of the video).  I'm so grateful he made this video and posted the recipe. If you are, too, plase consider liking and subscribing to The Buck Stop, and also, please click the "like" button on his video and leave a comment!

Washing rice can help reduce the levels of certain heavy metals, particularly arsenic, as well as remove dust, insects, and debris. While washing removes some of these contaminants, it also removes beneficial nutrients like iron, zinc, and copper.
Here's a more detailed explanation:
  • Heavy Metals in Rice:
Rice can absorb heavy metals like arsenic, cadmium, and lead from the soil and water during cultivation.
  • Arsenic is a significant concern, and washing rice can reduce its levels.
  • Other Elements:
Washing also removes other elements, including essential nutrients like iron, zinc, and copper.
    • Rinsing: Rinsing rice under cold water until the water runs clear can help remove surface contaminants and some arsenic.
    • Soaking: Soaking rice for a few hours or overnight can further reduce arsenic levels.
    • Cooking Like Pasta: Cooking rice in a large volume of water and then draining it can also be effective in removing arsenic, according to CNN.
  • Nutrient Loss:
While washing removes contaminants, it also reduces the levels of some nutrients. Consider balancing rice consumption with other nutrient-rich foods.
  • Regional Variations:
The concentration of heavy metals in rice can vary depending on where it's grown. For example, rice from California tends to have lower levels of arsenic.
  • Cooking Methods:
Different cooking methods can also affect heavy metal levels.
  • Overall:
Washing rice is generally recommended to reduce exposure to heavy metals, but it's also important to be mindful of the potential loss of nutrients.
